Named for the nearby gypsum deposits, the town of Gypsum is one of the nation’s biggest suppliers of wallboard products including drywall.

There’s more to find here than the gypsum mines, however.

There’s plenty to draw outdoor enthusiasts, from the Gypsum Creek Golf Course to nearby Sylvan Lake State Park and the Gypsum Shooting Sports Park.

Life can be idyllic here but unfortunately, that doesn’t stop disaster from occasionally striking.

Burst pipes, broken appliances and storms can all bring significant water damage and knowing what to do at times like this can make a huge difference.

Of course, the first thing you should do is call the professionals at SERVPRO of Summit, Lake, Park & Eagle Counties.

We’re prepared to respond faster to any disaster and equipped to handle any size job.

Even before we arrive, there are some tips you can follow to help get the restoration job started off the right way:

  • Remove excess water by mopping and blotting or using a shop vac if you have one. Do NOT try to use a regular household vacuum to remove water.
  • Wipe excess water from wood furniture after removing lamps or other table top items. This can help to mitigate damage to the wood.
  • Remove and prop up wet upholstery and cushions in order to begin the drying process as quickly as possible.
  • Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting.
  • In the summer, turn on AC to maximize drying.
  • Remove art objects to a safe, dry place.
  • Gather any loose items from the floor.

Know What NOT To Do

While the tips above are simple things you can do to help the drying and restoration process, there are also a few things that you shouldn’t do:

  • Don’t leave wet fabrics in place.
  • Don’t leave books, magazines or other wet colored items on wet carpets or floors as this can cause staining.
  • Don’t use your television or any other electrical appliances in affected rooms.
  • Don’t turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet and stay out of any room where the ceiling is visibly sagging.
